Slate

Slate is available in a wide range of colours, textures and degrees of hardness. Most slates are “split” down the natural laminates within the stone resulting in an uneven surface- “slate like”.

Different slates split more cleanly than others and it’s important to check that the selected slate has a texture which suits your taste. Further, as the stone is split, the pieces within a batch of one particular product will all differ in the degree of “roughness”- some will split cleanly while others will be more aggressive.

Some slates are suitable for outdoor paving applications, even driveways, while others are too soft and are only recommended for indoor flooring or wall cladding.
