Yarrabee & Castlemaine Stone Solutions carries and
recommends a range of surface treatments/sealers to ensure your natural stone
paving or flooring remains in great condition for many years to come.
Indoors we recommend natural split stone such as sandstone and slate are sealed with a surface coating sealer. This effectively puts a protective layer over the stone making regular cleaning and maintenance a breeze. A sheen is always evident when a surface coating sealer is applied. The resulting colour of the stone once sealed can be either (a) similar to that of the stone when dry or (b) enriched as if the stone was wet. Selection of the appropriate sealer to achieve the required result is essential and our Showroom staff will be happy to advise on exactly which sealer to use.
All honed and polished stone is sealed with one of the penetrating sealers which retain the natural unglazed look of the stone in its raw form.
These same penetrating sealers are used outdoors to enable protection of the stone without the addition of a shine. This avoids an artificial appearance, the potential for slip and also allows the stone to breathe (i.e. allows moisture to pass through the stone) while surface sealers can trap water and become milky in appearance.
